Rice is a cash crop that feeds millions of people around the world, but you can also grow it ornamentally.

Ornamentally rice can be found at speciality Garden centres and mail order nurseries. Check the tag or ask a garden centre representative to see if the variety is invasive. If it is, plant it in a lined pond only.

If your pond’s not lined, mesh containers should help to keep plants in check. These containers allow fresh water in and out but will keep the roots at bay. Use soil-less media designed for ponds since it won’t colour, cloud, float away or change the PH of the water.

Growing rice from seed isn’t hard as you may think.

  1. Soak the seeds in water for about 36 hours and allow to dry for 24 hours.
  2. Fill a bucket with 6 inches of a mixture soil and compost.
  3. Add about 5 inches of water to cover the soil.
  4. Evenly spread the seeds in the bucket and place in a warm, sunny area.
  5. Periodically add more water to maintain a constant 5-inch depth as the plants grow.

Depending on the type of rice and your climate, it can take up to 160 days before you can harvest any grain. But don’t expect a harvest big enough for a good meal. If you want rice by the pound, that’s better left to the professionals.

Frame and 3-point Hitch

The spacing among planting sections is varied due to its form tubular type tool bar. The hydraulic lift is made through the 3 points of tractor. The 3 point hitch is together with the frame of the machine.

Seed Reservoir/Hopper

The PLM seed hoppers are manufactured in polymeric material of high resistance. These characteristics qualify a better uniformity in the planting and handling practicity. They have jointed cover and an individual capacity of 45 litres (40kg)per row

Fertilizer Hoppers

The fertilizer hoppers of PLM planters are made of the same material as the seed hopper. They have articulated lid and capacity of 60 litres per row.


The power is transmitted mechanically by the movement of the press wheels and the movement of transmission mechanism is realized through chains. The changes of gears modify the quantities of fertilizer per hectare or seeds per metre.

Seed Metering

With range of seed plates for each specific culture and distance between rows, the distribution of seeds is made through the metering units which have the seed metre discs. The seed plates are chosen according to the size of of the seeds to be planted. It’s very important that all seeds go through the seed plates holes.

Fertilizer Metering

The fertilizer distribution is accomplished through distributor with auger metering. The sprockets can be modified according to the fertilizer dosage wanted.

Auger metering options are available as 1″ or 2″. The 2″ option will increase the volume of fertilizer twice.

The fertilizer distributor has exit housing in polymeric, protecting cover, and quick latch for change of the sprockets,eliminating this way, the clogging risks and generating easiness for the cleaning.

Fertilizer Opening System of the Furrow

PLM furrow openers for fertilizer exist in two types: Disc opener which has the function to depose the fertilizer below or beside seeds.

The knife opener type is used for deeper furrow where soil is more compact.

Covering Discs

They help close the furrow. They are dented and are made in cast iron with vertical and angular adjustments.

Press Wheel

It has the function of of drive wheel to transmit the power for fertilizer and seed metering.

It is also responsible for the closing of the furrow and to compact the soil, to protect the seed.

Row Marker

Mechanical row markers have the function to demarcate the planted area, to certify the space between the rows during planting.

PLM planters exist in two, three and four rows. They are easy to maintain and use.
